Enrollment & Transfer Information

You must register your child at your resident school based on your Milpitas resident address. If you do not know your resident school, please use the District's School Locator below.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION will begin at all elementary sites on Monday, January 24, 2022and will continue throughout the school year. Students who turn 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2022 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year.

TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK) is the first year of a 2-year program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. Your child must turn 5 years old between September 2, 2022 and December 2, 2022 to be eligible for TK for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Children who turn 5 after December 2, 2022 will need to enroll in January 2023 for kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year.

OPEN ENROLLMENT is a request to transfer from your assigned resident school to another school within Milpitas Unified School District. To qualify, your child must be living within the Milpitas Unified School District and enrolled at the resident school during the lottery process. Request forms and additional information will be available at your resident school and the district office beginning March 1, 2022.

INTER-DISTRICT TRANSFERS approved for the 2021-2022 school year will expire in May 2022. An approved inter-district transfer request must be on file for non-residents to continue attending school in the Milpitas Unified School District for the 2022-2023 school year. Please contact your District of Residence to begin the process. Applications for the 2022-2023 school year will be accepted beginning March 31, 2022 and may be dropped off to District Transfers at the District Office, Building 200, Room 210.

FIRST DAY of school for the 2022-2023 school year is Thursday, August 11, 2022. All registered students MUST be in their assigned seat on the first day of school. Any student who is not in class on the first day of school will be placed at the bottom of the registration list according to the student’s start date. The student may be overflowed to another school if a seat is unavailable when they return to school. This applies to ALL students, new and returning.


Registration for NEW students for the 2022-2023 school year begins January 24th.

(Due to Covid-19 Protocols, we will NOT be taking any in-person registrations at this time. If you need to use one of our chrome books to complete the registration online, please contact sminor@musd.org to make an appointment.)

All of the required documents should be uploaded during this process. Please have your PDF files ready to upload for your submitted documents. You should make necessary dental and medical appointments

  • Original birth certificate or passport

  • Guardian's driver's license (must be in Zanker's attendance area)

  • PG&E bill (dated within the last 3 months)

  • Mortgage Statement or Rental Agreement (dated within 1 year)

  • Dental Assessment (dated AFTER August 11th, 2021)

  • Current Immunizations

    • 4 Polio (3 doses meet requirement if one was given after 4th birthday)

    • 5 DTP (4 doses meet requirement if one was given after 4th birthday)

    • 2 MMR (on or after 1st birthday)

    • 3 Hepatitis B

    • 2 Varicella (by 5 years old)

    • TB Risk Assessment (dated AFTER August 11, 2021)

    • Health Examination: Required for TK, Kindergarten and 1st Grade ONLY (dated AFTER February 12, 2022)

Online enrollment will be available January 24th. Once your online submission has been completed, you will receive an email with more information regarding your enrollment. For questions on enrollment, please contact: sminor@musd.org

Registration is not complete until all required items have been submitted. Only at that time, your child will receive a registration number. The first day of the school year is Thursday, August 11th, 2022. Students must be present to guarantee their seat.
