Enrollment & Transfer Information

You must register your child at your resident school based on your Milpitas resident address. If you do not know your resident school, please use the District's School Locator below.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION will begin at all elementary sites on Monday, January 25, 2021and will continue throughout the school year. Students who turn 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2021 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year.

TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK) is the first year of a 2-year program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. Your child must turn 5 years old between September 2, 2021 and December 2, 2021 to be eligible for TK for the upcoming 2021-20212 school year. Children who turn 5 after December 2, 2021 will need to enroll in January 2022 for kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year.

OPEN ENROLLMENT is a request to transfer from your assigned resident school to another school within Milpitas Unified School District. To qualify, your child must be living within the Milpitas Unified School District and enrolled at the resident school during the lottery process. Request forms and additional information will be available at your resident school and the district office beginning March 1, 2021.

INTER-DISTRICT TRANSFERS approved for the 2020-2021 school year will expire in May 2021. An approved inter-district transfer request must be on file for non-residents to continue attending school in the Milpitas Unified School District for the 2021-2022 school year. Please contact your District of Residence to begin the process. Applications for the 2021-2022 school year will be accepted beginning March 31, 2021 and may be dropped off to District Transfers at the District Office, Building 200, Room 210.

FIRST DAY of school for the 2021-2022 school year is Thursday, August 12, 2021. All registered students MUST be in their assigned seat on the first day of school. Any student who is not in class on the first day of school will be placed at the bottom of the registration list according to the student’s start date. The student may be overflowed to another school if a seat is unavailable when they return to school. This applies to ALL students, new and returning.


Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year will begin January 25, 2021. This is for all incoming kindergartners who turned 5 years old on or before September 1st, 2021 and for all new students to Zanker School. Registration must be submitted online at http://www.musd.org/enrollment.html BEFORE any paperwork can be submitted in the office. Once you receive an email confirming the registration process, you can come in with your necessary paperwork.

The following information is required to complete the registration process:

- Original Birth Certificate (Kindergarten must be born September 1, 2016 or before.)

- Guardian's Driver License (must be in Zanker's attendance area)

- PG&E or Water Bill

- Mortgage Statement or *Rental Agreement dated within 1 year. (*Trans 02 and *Property Owner's Driver's License)

- Language Survey

- Understanding School Assignment Form

- Dental Screening (Kindergarten and 1st Grade, dated after August 12, 2020)

- Immunizations: 4 Polio, 5 DTP, 2 MMR, 3 Hepatitis B, 2 Varicella (by 5 yrs old)

- TB Assessment (dated after August 12th, 2020)

- Health Examination (Required for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, dated after Feb. 12th, 2021)

- Release of Student Records (1st-6th Grades)

Registration is not complete until all required items have been submitted. Only at that time, your child will receive a registration number. The first day of the school year is Thursday, August 12th, 2021. Students must be present to guarantee their seat.
