ZANKER SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

All students shall be in their Zanker uniform (exceptions include those who have an administration approved exemption form on file). Uniforms should be neat, clean and without holes. Our parents overwhelmingly support the wearing of uniforms which allows students to focus on what is important at school...LEARNING!

About once a month and on special occasions, we do have free dress days. Those days are announced via our school website on the homepage, in our calendar and in Principal Mia's monthly newsletter (located at the bottom of the school website's homepage. When we have a free dress day, students have the option to wear clothing of their choice, so long as their choice adheres to our District's Appearance Code. * See below.

UNIFORM STANDARDS

SHIRTS/TOPS

COLOR: Navy blue, burgandy or white (solid colors only)

STYLE: Polo, oxford, turtle neck

LOGOS: Only Zanker logos permitted - no other writing or pictures

*White undershirts must be worn under uniform blouses or shirts if it is see-through


SWEATERS/SWEATSHIRTS

COLOR: Navy blue, burgundy, white (solid colors only)

STYLE: V-neck, pull-over, cardigan, vest, crew neck

*Uniform shirts/tops must be worn under all sweaters or sweatshirts


JACKETS/COATS

COLOR: Any is acceptable

STYLE: No words nor logos

PANTS/SHORTS/SKIRTS

COLOR: Navy blue, or tan/khaki (solid colors only)

STYLE: Straight-legged, no cut-offs, denim, nor leggings (navy blue or white only, no prints) unless under an appropriate skirt

LENGTH of SHORTS/SKIRTS: No shorter than an arm length measurement


SHOES

STYLE: Closed-toed shoes only. No sandals, high heels, slippers or open toes.


CAPS/VISORS/HATS

For outdoor use only, no inappropriate writing, logos nor pictures that violate the District's Appearance Code.

DISTRICT APPEARANCE CODE

Students must exercise appropriate discretion in their choice of clothing and personal grooming so as not to cause a disturbance or interruption for themselves or others.

Examples of unacceptable clothing tube tops, tank tops, sport bras, halter-tops, and short shorts. The torso must be covered at all times even when arms are lifted or when bending over. Undergarments must not be visible. No slits in skirts.

Clothing must be appropriately sized for school activities. All clothing must be neat, clean and in good repair.

Spikes and chains may not be worn on the outside of any article.

Shoes must be worn at all times and be safe and appropriate for all school activities. Due to daily recess activities, closed-toe shoes are required at this site. No heels higher than 1 1/2” are permitted.

Hats and other non-religious head coverings may not be worn indoors.

Belts must be of appropriate length and contained within belt loops.

Students may not wear objects or any other items of apparel that present a health or safety hazard to themselves or to others. Body piercing, other than ear piercing present a potential health and safety hazard and cannot be worn at school.

Graffiti 'tags' will not be allowed on any items brought to school. Items such as backpacks, personal belongings, books, folders, and notebooks should be free of graffiti and tags.

The following is not acceptable at school:

  • Any clothing or personal belongings that are deemed as gang related, depict the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, contain offensive language, graphics or symbols, or deemed inappropriate by the site administrator.

The school may require additional dress standards because of special health and safety circumstances. The school may adopt uniforms as deemed appropriate by the school community as outlined in board policy 5132.1.

If a parent wishes to excuse his or her child from the uniform policy, an appointment must be made with the Principal.
